The economics of game-guide publishing reward speed over verification. A guide published four hours after an update outranks one published four days later, and the fastest way to be fast is to paraphrase a patch note and call it a guide. Readers pay for this in wrong numbers.
Stated sample size. "Roughly 1 in 40" with no denominator is a guess. "14 drops across 550 runs" is a measurement, and it lets you compute your own confidence interval. Any drop rate published without a sample size should be treated as folklore.
Admitted uncertainty. A guide that says "we could not reproduce this consistently" is more trustworthy than one that is confident about everything. Games are full of mechanics that resist clean measurement; a source that never hits one has probably not looked hard.
Dated to a patch, not a month. "Updated March 2026" tells you nothing if the game patched twice in March. Version-stamped guides can be checked; date-stamped ones cannot.
Contradiction handling. When two sources disagree, a tested guide reports the disagreement. An aggregated one silently picks whichever number it scraped first.
Wrong rates change decisions. If a guide says a currency sink pays back in 40 runs and the real figure is 120, you spend three times the resources reaching a conclusion you would not have chosen. The cost of a bad guide is not the reading time — it is the in-game hours spent acting on it.
